The Civic Art Gallery was set up following a donation made by Professor Attilio Moroni, a well-known inhabitant of Porto Recanati who died in 1986. He had been Rector of the University of Macerata for many years. The Art Gallery mirrors the cultural interests of the collector and covers the range of art history from the 16th to the 21st century. The first room of the Art Gallery is devoted to the local painter Biagio Biagetti, remarkable exponent of the sacred art of the 20th century, member of the Pontifical Academy “Pontificia Accademia dei Virtuosi del Pantheon” and Director of the Vatican Art Gallery. One room displays paintings that date back to the 16th and the 17th century, some of which are attributed to Carlo Maratta and Luca Giordano.
